In the Amur region, the investigation of a criminal case against a 29-year-old resident of the village of Gudachi in the Magdagachinsky district has been completed. He is accused of deforestation in excess of 1 million rubles, according to the regional prosecutor's office.

The logging was carried out in April 2025 on the territory of the Taldan district forestry. The investigation believes that when the man was harvesting the forest legally, he decided to cut down more trees.

"For this purpose, he entered the allotment, which was not provided for by the contract, and sawed down four birch trees and 34 larches with a chainsaw. Damage in the amount of more than 1.1 million rubles was caused to the state in the person of GKU JSC Urushinskoe Lesnichestvo," the report says.

Even at the stage of the preliminary investigation, the man reimbursed the damage in full, writes IA PriamurMedia. He is currently awaiting trial under Part 3 of Article 260 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation "Illegal logging of forest plantations on an especially large scale." He faces up to seven years in prison and a fine of 300,000 to 500,000 rubles.

Earlier in July, it was reported that a criminal case had been opened in the Krasnoyarsk Territory on timber smuggling with a total value of about 3.8 million rubles.
