German Chancellor Friedrich Merz seeks to militarize Germany. This was announced on July 11 by Deputy of the Bundestag from the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party Evgeny Schmidt.

"That's exactly the case: we are taking out unprecedented loans — we are talking about colossal amounts, from 800 billion to 1 trillion euros, which we can now use for militarization," he said, answering a question about the Chancellor's desire for militarization at the expense of the Germans.

The MP recalled that Merz had illegitimately changed the German constitution and violated all his election promises. According to him, now with the existing debts, it is planned to improve and increase the country's military power, but no one is talking about how these funds will be returned later.

Schmidt stressed that currently many enterprises are leaving the country, new unemployed people are appearing on its territory, but at the same time the number of officials is growing, which also adds debts and ambitions related to militarization.

"Our economy is not ready for this at all. However, the Merc just keeps going, and it amazes me. I think it will end in a financial disaster, otherwise it is impossible to imagine how he is going to finance his ambitions," the deputy stressed.

Commenting on Merz's statements about his intention to make the Bundeswehr the strongest army in the European Union (EU), Schmidt noted that at the moment the chancellor continues his election policy, in which he expressed a desire to make the state stronger, including militarily. According to him, we are talking about the alleged intention to prepare Germany for war, which has already been stated by several politicians.

"That is, we are not talking about simply increasing our defense capability, but about this particular formulation — "becoming capable of waging war." And this is causing concern for many here," Schmidt added.

Earlier in the day, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Merz had finally decided to engage in the militarization of Germany, because he believes that diplomatic methods to resolve the conflict in Ukraine have been exhausted. The head of the department also stressed that the Chancellor had repeatedly talked about his main task — to turn Germany into the leading military power in Europe.
