The expert named ways to protect office equipment from the summer heat
Even with a moderate load and a good cooling system, the summer heat can increase the processor temperature by 5-10 degrees. Artyom Pishchulin, the Brand Communications Manager of the iRU, told Izvestia on July 11 how high temperatures affect the performance of office equipment and what measures will help avoid overheating of the equipment.
According to him, overheating of the equipment leads to a decrease in performance due to the automatic reduction of the processor clock frequency (throttling), and also accelerates the wear of components — from the processor and memory to the battery and cooling system. Fans that are forced to operate at maximum speeds at elevated temperatures are particularly affected.
The expert noted that desktop computers with active cooling cope best with the heat. Nettops and monoblocks occupy an intermediate position: the former are less powerful, but also less heated, the latter are more productive, but equipped with improved ventilation systems. Laptops, especially ultrathin models, are most vulnerable to overheating due to their compact bodies. For office work, devices of the average category are optimal — not the thinnest, but also not gaming.
To protect the equipment, IT specialists are advised to avoid direct sunlight on the equipment, regularly clean the dust, change the thermal paste and check the cooling system. Special attention should be paid to the selection of devices tested for temperature resistance.
"High—quality preparation of equipment for the summer season helps to avoid not only a temporary decrease in productivity, but also premature equipment failure," Pishchulin emphasized.
On June 13, cardiologist Gulnara Orlova mentioned in an interview with Izvestia how to cool a room in summer without air conditioning. Orlova recommended that the apartment be ventilated in the morning and evening when the temperature outside decreases. During the day, windows should be tightly closed, additionally covering them with thick curtains or blinds.
