- The Ministry of Internal Affairs plans to reduce deaths in road accidents by 1.5 times by 2030
The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia has developed a draft "Strategy for improving road safety", according to which by 2030 the death rate in road accidents on the country's roads should decrease by one and a half times and by half by 2036 compared to 2023. The document was published on July 11 on the federal portal of draft regulatory legal acts.
"In order to effectively achieve the set goals for reducing deaths as a result of road accidents, it is necessary to consider ensuring road safety as the common responsibility of all subjects of the system, not just road users, with the priority of state responsibility," the explanatory note says.
The implementation of the strategy involves the introduction of new and improving the effectiveness of existing measures to ensure road safety, including through the active introduction of modern technologies and digitalization.
The draft strategy was agreed upon by 12 interested federal executive authorities and approved at a meeting of the government commission for Road Safety on April 18 this year. The goals are defined on the basis of the decree of the President of the Russian Federation dated May 7, 2024 "On the National Development Goals of the Russian Federation ...".
On July 9, it was reported that in Moscow, according to the results of the first half of 2025, 6.7% fewer accidents occurred than in the same period last year. The number of dead and injured decreased by 32% and 5.1%, respectively.
