Split ends of hair are a fairly common problem that many women face. Irina Troitskaya, a trichologist and cosmetologist at SM-Cosmetology, told Izvestia on July 14 about the main causes of this phenomenon.

So, the doctor named heat damage to the hair as one of the main reasons — frequent use of a hair dryer, irons and curling irons can lead to overheating of the hair and damage to it.

Another common reason is chemical exposure. Coloring, perming, and other chemical treatments can weaken the structure of hair, making it more susceptible to cross-section.

"It is also worth paying attention to such a factor as a lack of moisture. Dry hair is more prone to damage. Lack of moisture can be caused by improper care or exposure to the external environment (sun, wind, cold). In addition, the appearance of split ends can be caused by careless combing," the trichologist added.

Also, according to her, frequent washing of hair using aggressive shampoos can deprive them of natural oils, which leads to dryness and, as a result, split ends. At the same time, a lack of vitamins and minerals in the diet (for example, vitamins A, E, D, as well as omega-3 fatty acids) can negatively affect hair health.

In addition, as the specialist pointed out, it is worth considering such a factor as mechanical impact (for example, friction on a pillow or clothes).

"To prevent the appearance of split ends, it is important to take care of your hair, use protective products when styling, trim your hair regularly, monitor a balanced diet and replenish deficient body conditions," the doctor advised.

Earlier, on April 7, rheumatologist Ilnur Zubairov listed body signals indicating a lack of trace elements to Izvestia. According to him, the presence of white dots on the nail plates may indicate a lack of zinc, calcium, iodine, and vitamin A. In addition, he explained that symptoms of vitamin C deficiency include dry and split hair, fatigue, and swollen and painful joints.
