Most of the VW and Toyota cars sold in Russia were produced in China.
Of the 37.5 thousand cars of global brands, excluding brands from China, Russia and Belarus, sold in Russia in 2025, 43% of the cars (16.1 thousand units) were produced in China. Sergey Tselikov, director of the Autostat analytical agency, told about this in his Telegram channel on July 11.
Thus, according to the analyst, Volkswagen has the highest share of Chinese assembly among global brand cars sold in Russia since the beginning of the year — 93%. Mazda is in second place (83%), and Toyota is in third (75%), which is also the leader in the absolute volume of Chinese—built cars with a score of 6,158 units.
Next are Skoda (52%), Honda (46%), Kia (42%), Audi (38%), BMW (30%), Land Rover (28%) and Hyundai (25%). The minimum share of Chinese assembly for Mercedes-Benz is 5%.
The expert also noted that the share of new Chinese Teslas in Russia this year is 38%, although the number of cars is small — only 56 out of 147 registered in the country.
The day before, it became known that by the end of January – June, 144.8 thousand new passenger cars produced in 2025 were sold in Russia. They occupied 27.3% of the total market. However, 68.4% of the total market (362.9 thousand units) immediately accounted for cars produced in 2024.
