Modern houses will appear on the site of Moscow's aging buildings, promised the mayor of the capital, Sergei Sobyanin. The renovation of the housing stock should be planned and phased, he stressed in an interview with RIA Novosti.

"We thought that many series of houses should serve for 30-40-50 years, then communism would come and rebuild everything. There is no communism, we stayed at home," Sobyanin said.

According to him, many nine- and twelve-story buildings "are even worse than Khrushchev's five-story buildings in terms of structural safety." "Therefore, we are thinking about working with this category of houses," Sobyanin said.

In order for the city to be forever "young and modern", it is necessary to build industrial zones or vacant sites in it, erecting modern houses. But it is also important "not to leave behind a morally and physically outdated housing fund, which is gradually turning into a slum," the mayor of the capital believes.

"If residents want to, we will gradually involve them in this program today, making a reserve for the future. Thus, smoothly moving from one stage to another," Sobyanin stressed.

Earlier, the mayor of Moscow said that during 2025, more than 18 thousand Muscovites received housing under the renovation program. In the first half of the year, more than 20 residential complexes were built, twice as many as in the same period last year. The operating time of such buildings is 100 years or more.
