The United States has asked South Korea to join forces to contain China in trade negotiations. This was reported on July 11 by the Reuters news agency, citing an official from the republic's Ministry of Trade.

"Director of Trade Policy Jang Song—gil said that the United States is asking Seoul to join measures to contain China in 'other areas' as a precondition for bilateral cooperation in the field of shipbuilding," the publication says.

According to the official, the United States is concerned about its own crisis due to the increasing growth of China's share in the field of shipbuilding. In this regard, the United States considers South Korea as its strategic partner in this area.
