The US State Department noted the importance of communication with the Russian Federation to resolve the conflict in Ukraine.

It is impossible to achieve a peaceful settlement of the conflict in Ukraine without direct communication with representatives of the Russian side. This was announced on July 10 by the head of the press service of the US State Department, Tammy Bruce.

"Many in the previous administration believed that it was not worth talking to [Russian President Vladimir] Putin at all. We haven't spoken to him in three years. It is impossible to reach any kind of mutual understanding or agreement this way," she said during a briefing with reporters, the speech was broadcast on the official YouTube channel of the department.
