Most of the cars sold in Russia since the beginning of 2025 turned out to be from last year

According to the results of January – June, 144.8 thousand new passenger cars produced in 2025 were sold in Russia. They occupied 27.3% of the total market, the analytical agency Autostat reported on July 10. Immediately, 68.4% of the total market (362.9 thousand units) accounted for cars produced in 2024.

Among the "fresh" cars, Russians most often bought UAZ (51.5% share), Solaris (48.5%), Lada (41.4%), Chery (40.9%), Moskvich (37.5%), Haval (36.8%), Voyah (36.2%), Belgee (35.9%) and Evolve (32.3%).

And among the "last year's" brands, the Knewstar brand became the leader, where absolutely all cars sold in 2025 were released in 2024. Xcite (99.9%), Rox (98.9%), KGM (98.1%), Omoda (97.2%) and GAC (96.2%) also stand out in this ranking. Changan, Tank, VGV, Dongfeng, Exeed, Geely, Jetour and Jaecoo brands account for more than 90% of such vehicles in sales.

It is noted that new cars manufactured in 2023 are still on sale — they occupied 4.3% of the semi-annual market volume (22.7 thousand units). At the same time, the Ora brand has the highest share of sales of such machines (97.3%), and Jetta, Livan, MG, FAW, Aito and SWM also have high figures.

On July 8, it was reported that there were practically no new hatchback models left on the Russian car market. Thus, in the first half of 2025, 66% fewer hatchbacks (11 thousand units) were registered than in January –June 2024. The market share of this segment has decreased to 2%.
