A large-scale reconstruction of the Northern Aeration Station continues in St. Petersburg. The works are carried out by the city Water utility. They are planned to be completed by the end of 2025.

By the end of July, the Vodokanal must install an aeration system in the aerotanks. With the help of this equipment, the sludge mixture will be aerated in storage facilities.

Experts explained that aerotanks play an important role in the process of biological wastewater treatment. They are supplied with air to ensure the vital activity of activated sludge. It, in turn, "eats" organic pollutants, including nitrogen and phosphorus, which are contained in wastewater.

Nitrogen and phosphorus are the main nutrient medium for blue-green algae, which reduce the oxygen content in the water body and release toxins. In reservoirs with these algae, the water is unsuitable for animal and plant habitat, bathing, and it cannot be used in agriculture and everyday life.

The 78 TV channel, with reference to the Vodokanal, notes that the reconstruction of the Northern Aeration Station is an important environmental project. Such events are included in the program for improving environmental efficiency as part of a comprehensive environmental resolution. The company received it in 2024.

Earlier it was reported that in St. Petersburg, the Martynov House at the intersection of Kamennoostrovsky Prospekt and Bolshaya Monetnaya Street was recognized as a monument of regional significance. The building was included in the unified state register as an object of cultural heritage of regional significance.
