- The referee was placed under house arrest in the case of a bribe for the Torpedo—KAMAZ match
The court has placed football referee Bogdan Golovko under house arrest in the case of match-fixing between the football teams Torpedo and KAMAZ. This was announced on Thursday, July 10, by the official representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Irina Volk.
The match took place on May 24 and ended with a score of 1:1. This result allowed Torpedo to enter the Russian Premier League (RPL). According to the investigation, the club's leaders, through an intermediary, transferred 1.5 million rubles to the chief judge for influencing the outcome of the meeting.
"Searches were conducted in the homes of the chief referee of the match and the mediator, communications equipment and other items of evidentiary value were seized," Volk clarified in her Telegram channel.
A preventive measure was imposed on the judge in the form of house arrest, and the mediator was ordered not to leave. They are charged under Article 184 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Unlawfully influencing the outcome of an official sports competition or spectacular commercial competition").
Earlier, on June 20, it was reported that the owner of Torpedo, Leonid Sobolev, and the director of the club, Valery Skorodumov, were detained in a case of illegally influencing the outcome of matches involving the club. On July 8, police officers detained Golovko "for illegally influencing the results of the Russian Football Championship."
On July 10, FC Torpedo was excluded from the upcoming RPL championship.
