A deal with time: how to increase your insurance pension by 1.5 times
The size of the insurance pension of Russians is influenced by work experience and the number of accumulated pension points. Accordingly, the higher these indicators, the higher the amount of pension payments. The Social Fund of Russia talked about another way to increase the payout. If you take a legal vacation five years later, the cost of accrued pension points will increase. For more information on how to increase pension payments— see the Izvestia article.
How to increase the old-age insurance pension
You can increase your insurance pension due to several key factors, each of which directly affects the amount of future payments. First of all, the length of insurance is important — the period during which the employer officially paid insurance contributions to the pension fund. The minimum required length of service for a pension in 2025 is 15 years.
At the same time, the insurance record includes not only periods of work, but also so—called "non-insurance" periods - military service, caring for children, the disabled or the elderly over 80, as well as periods of receiving unemployment benefits. Non-insurance periods are counted in the length of service if, before or after such periods, a person worked officially, and insurance premiums were accrued and paid for him. The longer the total length of service, the more pension points you can accumulate, which means the higher the pension will be.
The second important factor is the number of retirement points (coefficients). They are accrued for each year of official work and depend on the amount of salary and insurance premiums paid. In 2025, you need to accumulate at least 30 points to retire. Moreover, a maximum of 10 coefficients can be earned in a year.
Another effective way to increase payments is to delay retirement. As explained in the Social Fund of Russia (SFR), if a citizen decides not to apply for a pension immediately after reaching retirement age, but postpones retirement for five years, his retirement points will be increased by 45%. This is due to the use of premium coefficients that encourage later retirement and, consequently, higher payments. The deferred receipt of an insurance pension makes it possible to increase pension payments by almost one and a half times, which is especially beneficial for those who continue to work after reaching retirement age.
Finally, Russians can independently influence the amount of future payments with the help of a funded pension. It is formed by investing part of the insurance premiums in special funds. Unlike the basic insurance pension, the funded pension is not indexed by the state, its size depends on how successfully the selected funds work.
How many retirement points do you need to earn for a good retirement
The amount of an old-age insurance pension is calculated as the sum of a fixed payment and the product of the number of accumulated pension points by their value. The cost of one pension point in 2025 is 145.69 rubles, and the fixed payment amount is 8,907.7 rubles. With a minimum individual pension coefficient (IPC) of 30 points, the minimum pension will be: 30 × 145,69 + 8 907,7 = 13 278,4 rubles. Accordingly, if you have accumulated 100 points, the pension will be: 8 907,7 + 100 × 145,69 = 23 476,7 rubles. With 150 points, the monthly income will increase to about 30,761.2 rubles.
To get the maximum 10 points per year, you need to have an income of about 230 thousand rubles per month, which is twice the average salary. With a monthly income of 100,000 rubles per year, you can earn about 4.35 retirement points. This is due to the fact that the number of points is calculated in proportion to the insurance premiums paid and is limited to the maximum value.
If this level of official income is maintained for 20 years, then the total pension coefficient will be: 4.35 × 20 = 87 points. Based on this, the pension amount will be: 8 907,7 + (87 × 145,69) = 8907,7 + 12 668 = 21 575,7 rubles.
To increase the retirement ratio, it is important to have an official "white" salary — the higher the income, the more insurance premiums and points. It is also possible to purchase pension points — voluntary contributions to the SFR. In 2025, it will take approximately 60,450 rubles to purchase one point. This will be relevant for the self-employed, entrepreneurs, and those who have had periods of work without official registration.
You can find out the exact number of accumulated pension points through your personal account on the Gosuslugi portal or the website of the Social Fund of Russia, as well as at the offices of the SFR and the IFC.
