Lavrov said about ensuring stability in the Asia-Pacific region against the background of the partnership between Russia and ASEAN

The partnership between Russia and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) contributes to ensuring stability in the Asia-Pacific region (APR). This was announced on July 10 by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

"Cooperation in the field of politics and security, countering new challenges and threats is being strengthened. Cooperation in the fields of economics, energy, agriculture, and humanitarian ties has gained positive momentum," he said during the Russia—ASEAN ministerial meeting.

According to him, the association is a reliable friend and like-minded partner of the Russian Federation. Lavrov stressed that the parties are united by their commitment to developing broad and equitable international cooperation based on the UN Charter.

The parties agreed to simplify the visa regime and strengthen cooperation in ASEAN, G20 and BRICS.

Lavrov arrived in Kuala Lumpur to participate in ASEAN events on the night of July 10. During the events, the diplomat will hold working meetings with the heads of foreign diplomatic departments. Later, the US State Department reported that the Russian Foreign Minister would meet with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio as part of his participation in the events.
