The Polish Defense Minister called the Baltic an internal sea of NATO
The Baltic Sea has become an internal sea of NATO. The corresponding statement was made on July 10 by Polish Defense Minister Vladislav Kosinyak-Kamysh.
"After Sweden and Finland joined NATO, the Baltic Sea became the alliance's inland sea," he was quoted on the Defense Ministry's website as saying.
In addition, Kosinyak-Kamysh stressed that Warsaw has signed a contract for the supply of a radar system, which is subsequently planned to be deployed on the Polish coast to monitor the situation at sea and in the airspace.
According to him, the need to ensure security comes from Russia's allegedly malevolent actions.
Earlier, on June 25, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko announced the transformation of the Baltic Sea region into a zone of confrontation between NATO and Russia. Then he clarified that the alliance had ideas to turn the Baltic Sea into an "internal sea of NATO." According to him, similar plans are being hatched for the Black Sea.
