US President Donald Trump has appointed Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy as interim head of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). This was announced on July 9 by the American leader in his Truth Social network.

"Sean [Duffy] is doing a great job managing our country's transportation affairs. <...> He will be a fantastic leader of this increasingly important space agency, even if only for a short period of time," Trump wrote.

Duffy's election demonstrates the persistence of the conflict between Trump and American billionaire and entrepreneur Elon Musk, who proposed the candidacy of Jared Isaacman.

Earlier, on June 7, it was reported that the founder of a technology company and Musk's friend, Jared Isaacman, was suddenly removed from his post as a candidate for the post of head of NASA. This was the beginning of the expected "purge" by the White House.
