The media learned about Trump's condition for imposing sanctions against Russia
US President Donald Trump will support the congressional draft on the introduction of new anti-Russian sanctions, subject to the expansion of his powers. This was reported by the Politico newspaper on July 9, citing sources.
"The administration will not allow Congress to manage the president's foreign policy. The bill should include full powers to exempt from sanctions," the publication says.
Thus, the American leader will approve new restrictions only if he can be given the authority to lift them in the future.
It is noted that the current version of the bill allows the US president to cancel the imposition of duties of 500% on imports from countries that purchase Russian oil and uranium. At the same time, Republican US Senator Lindsey Graham (listed on the Russian list of terrorists and extremists) agreed to indicate in the bill Trump's ability to re-lift the restrictions imposed with the permission of Congress.
On the same day, Trump said that the imposition of new sanctions was up to him. The new level of interest of the US president in tightening anti-Russian restrictions is also related to a more transparent legislative agenda of the congress.
