US President Donald Trump imposed 50% trade duties on goods from Brazil, he sent a corresponding letter on behalf of the White House on July 9. The law will be put into effect on August 1.

It is noted that the reason for such a high tariff was the unequal trade relations between the countries and Brazil's alleged interference in the US presidential election.

"Partly due to Brazil's insidious attack on free elections and the fundamental right of Americans to freedom of speech <...>, starting on August 1, 2025, we will charge Brazil a 50% tariff on any Brazilian goods imported into the United States, separate from all sectoral tariffs," Trump wrote in the document.

Earlier, on July 8, Trump warned about the imposition of 10 percent duties on the BRICS countries.
