Iranian President Masoud Peseshkian informed the President of the European Council (EU), Antonio Costa, during a telephone conversation about his commitment to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Weapons (NPT) and his readiness for negotiations with the West. Costa wrote about this on July 9 on the social network X.

"We agreed that dialogue is the way forward to resolve conflicts and ensure peace and tranquility. Peseshkian assured me that Iran remains in the NPT and is ready to continue cooperation with Iran," the EU president said in a statement.

As Costa noted, he managed to persuade the Iranian leader to continue cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

Earlier, on July 2, Peseshkian issued a decree suspending cooperation with the IAEA. At the same time, the deputy head of Iran's judiciary suggested that the issue of a possible trial of the agency's head, Rafael Grossi, "belongs to international affairs and should be considered through appropriate channels."
