- The State Duma responded to Merz's words about the impossibility of resolving the conflict in Ukraine
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, speaking about the impossibility of resolving the Ukrainian conflict through diplomatic means, is trying to lobby for the militarization of the German economy. This was stated by State Duma deputy Alexei Chepa on Wednesday, July 9.
"Merz is just waiting for the opportunity to make a statement that there will be no negotiations, and all diplomatic opportunities have been exhausted, and only military cooperation can save Ukraine. And for this, it is necessary to increase the militarization of the German economy in order to pull the country out of the crisis it is in," he said in a conversation with Lenta.Ru .
According to the parliamentarian, Merz's possible actions to escalate the conflict will not affect its outcome, but may prolong the confrontation.
"The interests here are not only political, but also economic. The German economy can only be pulled out by militarization. The Germans talked about this five or six years ago, when they realized that the green economy was ineffective," concluded Chepa.
Earlier in the day, Merz said that the possibilities to end the conflict in Ukraine through diplomatic means had been exhausted, NSN reports. He added that Germany will continue to support Kiev, according to 360.ru .
He stated that he assumes the responsibility of a leader, which, as he understands, is borne by the German Chancellor and which Europe expects, writes Pravda.Ru .
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said in response that possible supplies of Taurus cruise missiles to Ukraine could be regarded as Berlin's direct entry into the conflict, Regnum news agency reports.
On July 7, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stressed Moscow's readiness for a diplomatic settlement of the Ukrainian conflict. According to him, it should be about lasting peace, not a truce. He also expressed the opinion that, first of all, it is necessary to eliminate the threats to Russia's security associated with the expansion of NATO and "the involvement of Ukraine in this military bloc."
