The doctor spoke about the effect of hormones on women's health
Hormonal balance plays a key role in a woman's reproductive health, and its disruption can lead to serious consequences. On July 11, Maria Bakhmetyeva, a leading specialist of the Semeynaya clinic network, obstetrician-gynecologist, gynecologist-endocrinologist, told Izvestia about how to recognize the malfunction and what measures to take.
She explained that the female body experiences four phases of hormone levels change every month, and any deviations in this process immediately affect well-being. The first signal of hormonal imbalance is often a violation of the menstrual cycle. A cycle lasting from 24 to 38 days is considered the norm, while the duration of menstruation itself should not exceed eight days. If the intervals between cycles fluctuate by more than 7-9 days or the nature of discharge changes dramatically, this is a reason to consult a specialist.
"Among the main causes of hormonal disruptions are chronic diseases, stress, excessive physical activity and an unbalanced diet. Alarming symptoms also include delayed or premature onset of menstruation, changes in discharge volume, unexplained weight gain or loss, decreased libido, vaginal dryness and painful sensations during sexual intercourse," warned Bakhmetyeva.
Special attention should be paid to the appearance of excessive hair growth on the face and body, which may indicate an increase in the level of male hormones.
According to the doctor, one of the key hormones affecting women's health is estrogen. It not only regulates the menstrual cycle, but also participates in the processes of conception and metabolism. Estrogen deficiency can occur due to menopause, surgical removal of the ovaries, endocrine diseases, or even strict diets. Its deficiency manifests itself in the form of dry mucous membranes, disorders of the vaginal microflora, menopausal syndrome with hot flashes and insomnia, and also increases the risk of osteoporosis and cardiovascular diseases. In such cases, the doctor may prescribe hormone replacement therapy.
The role of the thyroid gland is equally important. Excess thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) can cause chronic fatigue, drowsiness, and menstrual irregularities. With such symptoms, it is necessary to consult a gynecologist-endocrinologist for timely diagnosis and treatment.
Earlier, on April 30, Maxim Voynov, a gynecologist and surgeon at the SM Clinic Center for Reproductive Health, told Izvestia about the dangerous symptoms of ovarian cysts. According to him, not all cysts are dangerous. He attributed endometrioid cysts to pathological cysts associated with endometriosis, a condition in which cells similar to those of the uterine mucosa grow outside of it.
