- The AFD talked about the weakening of the German economy due to the foreign policy course
Germany's economy has been weakened due to support for NATO's policy of eastward expansion and isolation of Russia. This was stated on July 9 by Elena Fritz, a member of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party.
"Germany's decision to meekly fit into the logic of NATO expansion was not a historical necessity, but a political will. Today, Germany is paying the price for this course: economically weakened, politically isolated, and under external control in security matters," she said.
The politician noted that Russia perceived such steps by NATO as a violation of a political promise, albeit not fixed in writing. This, in turn, seriously undermined the strategic relations between Russia and the West.
"And this was a violation of the spirit of German unification, which, in fact, was aimed at a pan—European detente, rather than a new bloc confrontation," Fritz added.
According to her, the loss of the country's sovereignty did not really end in 1990, on the contrary, it had just begun.
On June 19, Igbal Guliyev, Deputy Director of the MGIMO International Institute of Energy Policy and Diplomacy, Doctor of Economics, did not rule out the destruction of the German economy due to the abandonment of Russian gas. He recalled that Germany had been building its industrial and energy model for many years, relying on affordable Russian energy resources.
