Pakistan has announced plans to launch a railway connection with Russia
Pakistan plans to implement a project to launch direct rail links with Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan. This was announced on July 9 by Haroon Akhtar Khan, Special assistant to the Prime Minister of Pakistan on industrial issues.
According to him, there are currently two projects, one of which the country has already signed an agreement on the preparation of a feasibility study between Uzbekistan, Afghanistan and Pakistan. It is specified that this was done to implement railway communications with Russia, Kazakhstan, as well as with Belarus.
"To make the railway connection a reality and connected to Kazakhstan, Belarus and Russia, and to implement all this on the basis of a pilot project," Khan told TASS.
In addition, Pakistan is also planning to launch the first freight train to Russia. The realization of this goal will contribute to the development of future trade and future industrial cooperation with the Russian Federation, as well as with the republics of Central Asia.
"So we've made progress and we're very interested in that," Khan concluded.
The Minister of Finance of the Republic of Pakistan, Muhammad Aurangzeb, said in an interview with Izvestia on March 27 that the country expects progress in relations with Russia in the coming years. According to him, the expansion of Pakistani-Russian cooperation will ensure the development of regional transport corridors in Asia, including the North—South logistics system, improved infrastructure, and increased trade.
