People's Artist of the Russian Federation Galina Karelina died at the age of 95.
Galina Karelina, People's Artist of the Russian Federation, member of the Union of Theatrical Figures of Russia, Soviet and Russian theater and film actress, has died at the age of 94. This was announced on July 9 at the Alexandrinsky Theater.
"On July 9, 2025, People's Artist of Russia Galina Timofeevna Karelina died at the age of 95," the Telegram channel says.
The theater noted that they would announce the date of farewell to the actress later.
Karelina was born in 1931. She graduated from the Leningrad Theater Institute named after A.N. Ostrovsky. Subsequently, in 1956, she was accepted into the troupe of the current Alexandrinsky Theater. Since then, for almost 70 years, she has performed on his stage.
The actress has more than 60 roles under her belt. She is known for such roles as Olga from "The Years of Wandering", Donna Anna from "Little Tragedy", Inga Peters from "Before Sunset", Julia Tugina from "The Last Victim" and others. She was also awarded state and professional awards for her services to the development of Russian culture and art.
Karelina's stage partners were such artists as Vasily Merkuryev, Nikolai Cherkasov, Nikolai Simonov, Yuri Tolubeev, Bruno Freundlich, Igor Gorbachev and the legendary Alexandrins.
