In the event of missile attacks on the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant (NPP), a regional disaster may occur. This was announced on July 9 by the head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi.

"The station is located in a combat zone. Hitting several missiles can lead to the release of radioactive materials and a regional catastrophe," he said in an interview with the Polish newspaper Rzeczpospolita.

At the same time, he stressed that the station is currently inoperable.

In addition, the head of the IAEA ruled out a repeat of the Chernobyl scenario. According to him, the Chernobyl nuclear power plant was not protected by a dome, and the energy process was controlled using combustible graphite. According to Grossi, more modern solutions are being used at the NPP.

Earlier, on June 27, the Armed Forces of Ukraine used a drone to attack employees of the Zaporizhia NPP in the area of work on hydraulic structures. It was specified that the blocks were located at a distance of about 350-400 m. Later, on June 30, the IAEA staff examined the scene and the official car, which was damaged as a result of the attack.
