In Kamchatka, police officers detained a suspect in the illegal fishing of more than 100 kg of salmon species during Operation Putin-2025. This was announced on July 9 by the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Kamchatka Territory in the Telegram channel.

"Officers of the police department No. 12 of the Ust-Bolsheretsky municipal Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia detained a 41-year-old resident of the village of Sobolevo, suspected of illegal extraction of aquatic biological resources," the department said.

It is specified that the attacker illegally fished 102 kg of chinook salmon and 2 kg of chum salmon using a rubber boat and an 18 m long net. The damage from his actions amounted to almost 240 thousand rubles.

A criminal case has been opened into the incident under paragraph "a" of Part 1 of Article 256 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Illegal extraction of aquatic biological resources"). The man could face up to two years in prison or a fine of up to 500,000 rubles, the Interior Ministry said.

On December 3, 2024, the Primorye Transport Prosecutor's Office approved an indictment against two local residents who were engaged in illegal crab fishing. The criminal actions were stopped by FSB officers. The property of the accused has been seized.
