An explosion on a chemical tanker en route to Oman occurred off the coast of India outside the shipping channel in the port of Dendayal (former Candla). This was reported on July 7 by The Times of India (TOI).

"The captain of the vessel confirmed that there were no casualties and that all crew members were safe. However, the explosion caused the ship to list by about 22 degrees to starboard. At first, the captain stated that he was taking corrective measures and no assistance was needed. Later, the captain requested the evacuation of the crew," the publication says.

It is reported that the entire crew of 21 people was successfully evacuated within an hour. It is specified that the tanker was without cargo at the time of the explosion.

According to sources, about 35% of the ship was damaged. As a result of the incident, sea and rainwater got into the hold, which is pumped out by pumps.

"Currently, a coast guard ship is located next to the vessel, and the authorities are awaiting the arrival of a group of rescue experts to assess the integrity of the structure and plan further recovery actions," the newspaper informs.

The tanker was built in 1999 and sailed under the flag of Hong Kong.

On June 30, the tanker Vilamoura, carrying about 1 million barrels of oil, exploded off the coast of Libya. A representative of the management company TMS Tankers said that there was no leakage of petroleum products.
