A man in Italy was dragged into a working airplane engine at Orio al Serio airport. This was reported by the Corriere della Sera newspaper on Tuesday, July 8.
According to media reports, a man about 35 years old broke into the airport in a car, abandoned the car and crossed the terminal on foot, passing the arrival area and opening the security door leading to the aircraft parking lots. He reached the Volotea Airbus A319 aircraft, which was preparing for takeoff. As a result, the unknown man was dragged into the running engine of the aircraft and died.
Sacbo, the airport's management company, suspended flights from 10:20 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. local time. Law enforcement agencies are investigating the causes of the incident.
"The dramatic event shocked the entire airport community," said Sacbo President Giovanni Sanga, expressing his condolences to the family of the deceased.
There were 154 passengers and six crew members on board, none of them were injured. The passengers received psychological assistance. Later, the airline organized a new flight.
On May 17, five people were killed in a collision and crash of two helicopters taking off from Tallinn in southwestern Finland. The Finnish Ministry of Defense stressed that the incident was not related to military equipment or facilities in the country.
