In June, banks provided Russians with about 309 billion rubles for the purchase of primary and secondary housing. This result is 8% higher than the results of May this year, but 60% lower than in June 2024. This is reported in a VTB study, which was reviewed by Izvestia on Wednesday, July 9.

In general, according to the results of the first half of the year, the total volume of mortgage loans in Russia amounted to approximately 1.5 trillion rubles, which is 47% lower than the result for the same period last year. Government support continues to be the driver of the market: according to VTB estimates, its share in January-June amounted to 78% of the total volume of disbursements. Family mortgages dominate among preferential programs, accounting for 69% of all sales in the first half of the year.

It is specified that VTB itself conducted about 9.5 thousand mortgage transactions worth 53.6 billion rubles in June, which is 38% higher in number and 41% higher in volume than in May. The average loan amount was 5.6 million rubles, which is 2% more than a month earlier and 9% more than in June last year. In total, in the first half of the year, Russians received about 37 thousand housing loans from VTB for more than 198 billion rubles. As in the market, mortgage issuance in the bank decreased significantly in annual terms.

"Government support for mortgages remains a key fuel for the market, and VTB is actively involved in implementing preferential programs. We see that the current situation requires borrowers to take a particularly balanced approach to buying a home, and our task is to provide them with all the necessary tools and advice to make an informed decision," added Alexey Okhorzin, Adviser to VTB's Deputy President and Chairman of the Management Board.

Analysts at the TYMY platform said on July 3 that the total number of mortgage loan applications in June 2025 increased by 15.2% compared to the previous month. According to their data, the dynamics in the primary housing segment turned out to be slightly more positive, with an increase of 19.9%. In the secondary market, the volume of mortgage applications remained almost at the level of May, adding only 3.28% compared to the previous month. The ratio of applications in the segment of new buildings to the secondary market was 75 to 25%.
