A student from China faces up to five years in prison for smuggling cultural property. This was announced on July 8 by the Moscow Interregional Transport Prosecutor's Office.

"A student from China studying in the capital is charged under Part 1 of Article 226.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Smuggling of cultural property, that is, illegal movement of cultural property on a large scale across the customs border of the Eurasian Economic Union")," follows from the publication in the Telegram channel.

It is specified that the student bought a shell of an extinct cephalopod in May 2024. Next, he sent it to the United States through a post office to make a profit.

At the same time, the young man was aware that the object was of cultural value. Despite this, he indicated in the customs declaration that there was a "decorative stone" in the parcel.

The item was found at the customs post at Sheremetyevo airport. According to the press service of the department, the cost of the sink is 120 thousand rubles. For committing a crime, a student faces imprisonment for up to five years.

Earlier, a 46-year-old Russian man was detained in Vnukovo, who was about to fly to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) with a gold chain worth 3 million rubles. During the examination, it turned out that the chain was made of 916 gold alloy and was not a finished piece of jewelry. As a result, it was decided to withdraw the goods from the Russian.
