- The head of the Board of Directors of Akkuyu NPP named the capacity of its first power unit
The first power unit of the Akkuyu nuclear power plant (NPP) in Turkey, after launch, will be able to provide electricity to 3 to 4 million people. This was announced on July 8 by Anton Dedusenko, CEO of JSC Rusatom Energy International, which is building the power plant.
"After commissioning, the first power unit of the Akkuyu NPP will generate more than 8.7 billion kWh of electricity per year. This volume is enough to provide electricity to 3-4 million people," Dedusenko said at the NPPES nuclear power plant summit in Istanbul, RIA Novosti quoted him as saying.
He added that the electricity from the Akkuyu NPP will not be distributed to individual settlements, but will be supplied to the unified energy system of Turkey. However, the electricity generated by one power unit can meet the needs of several hundred settlements.
On June 28, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak announced that the first power unit of the Akkuyu NPP would be launched within a year. He added that the construction of the power plant is proceeding according to the established schedule.
