Czech President Petr Pavel has questioned the possibility of achieving peace in Ukraine in the near future due to Russia's successful actions on the battlefield. He stated this in an interview with the BBC on July 8.

"Personally, I don't believe this, I don't trust Russian arguments at all. When they say that they do not aim to completely defeat Ukraine, it is worth listening to the statements of the President [of the Russian Federation Vladimir] Putin or [Russian Foreign Minister] Sergey Lavrov to understand what they really want," Pavel said.

According to him, Russia allegedly does not see the need for peace talks at the moment because of the situation on the battlefield.

"They (the Russian authorities – Ed.) believe that they can achieve much more with the help of military operations than through negotiations," the politician summed up.

On July 8, the Kremlin promised to promptly announce the date of negotiations between Russia and Ukraine. According to Dmitry Peskov, the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation, Russia is currently waiting for proposals on the dates of negotiations from the Ukrainian side.
