The State Duma adopted a law on increasing allowances for pregnant students

State Duma deputies adopted in the second and third readings a law on increasing the amount of maternity benefits for female students studying at universities, vocational training organizations and scientific organizations. The corresponding statement was published on the official website of the State Duma on July 8.

"According to the law, payments will be increased to the subsistence level of the able—bodied population of the region where students live," the statement said.

It is specified that the average amount of maternity allowance for female students will be about 90 thousand. Currently, it is paid in the amount of a scholarship and does not exceed 23 thousand rubles.

According to the State Duma, the law will come into force on September 1 this year.

On May 19, the Ministry of Labor drafted a bill that includes an increased maternity allowance for full-time students. At the same time, it is assumed that the allowance will be assigned and paid by the Social Fund of Russia at the expense of the federal budget.
