Russia will be preparing for the worst because of NATO's plans to increase defense spending. Moscow will also continue to ensure its defense capability. This was announced on July 8 by Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko.

"We must prepare for the worst. One should not hope that some plans will not be implemented or will be implemented to the end. We must calmly continue to ensure our security and defense capability," he told reporters after a meeting of the United Russia faction group in the State Duma.

According to Grushko, there are various problems that may hinder the implementation of the plans adopted at the Hague summit and being developed by the European Union (EU). The Russian Deputy Foreign Minister believes that they are questionable from the point of view of the economic capabilities of the NATO and EU countries.

Earlier, on July 4, it was reported that the German Ministry of Defense was considering purchasing 1,000 Leopard 2 main battle tanks and up to 2,500 GTK Boxer armored fighting vehicles worth €25 billion as part of NATO's rearmament and strengthening the alliance's defense capability.
