- The media learned about the preparation of the port in Rotterdam for a potential conflict with Russia
The management of the Dutch port of Rotterdam has begun reserving places for ships carrying military cargo in case of conflict with Russia. This was reported on July 8 by the Financial Times (FT).
"Europe's largest port is preparing for a potential conflict with Russia by reserving places for ships carrying military cargo and thinking about where to send cargo in the event of a war," the article says.
The port authority is coordinating with neighboring Antwerp to deal with the arrival of vehicles and ammunition from the United Kingdom, the United States and Canada, said its CEO, Beaudoin Simons.
"Not every terminal is suitable for handling military cargo. <...> If we had to send large volumes of military cargo, we would turn to Antwerp or other ports to take over some of the capacity, and vice versa. We see each other less and less as competitors. And, of course, we compete where necessary, but we work together where we can," he said in an interview with the Financial Times.
Rotterdam's measures are part of military preparations across Europe, the newspaper said. In May, the Dutch Ministry of Defense announced that the port of Rotterdam should provide a place to service ships carrying military cargo, at the request of NATO.
According to Simons, one or more vessels will dock at the port for several weeks, four to five times a year. In addition, amphibious military exercises will be held several times a year, the Newspaper added.Ru»
Earlier, on April 29, Mike Waltz, National Security Adviser to the President of the United States, said in an interview with The New York Post (NYP) that the United States, with a debt of $33 trillion, could no longer afford to subsidize European security.
