US President Donald Trump's duties against BRICS members will not have a strong impact on the Russian economy. This was reported on July 8 by The Telegraph newspaper.

The publication notes that the introduction of duties will not have a serious impact on the economies of Russia and Iran. Moreover, the escalation of trade disputes between the United States and China could be beneficial for Moscow.

"The escalation of trade tensions between the United States and China is beneficial to Russia, as it is able to quickly replace American supplies of oil, liquefied natural gas and coal on the Chinese market," the newspaper notes.

The newspaper also warns that the introduction of new duties will negate the progress made in reducing trade tensions between the United States and China under the London and Geneva agreements. In particular, the United States promised to ease export restrictions on aircraft engines, software for designing microcircuits and ethane. In response, China has taken steps to lower barriers to exports of rare earths.

The global image of the United States will also be seriously damaged. BRICS is expanding the mechanism of the insurance fund (CRA), which will allow member countries to borrow funds in national currencies instead of the US dollar. In addition, the Russian Financial Messaging System (SPFS) and the Chinese Interbank Settlement System (CIPS) are gradually replacing the dominance of SWIFT.

On July 6, Trump announced that he plans to impose additional duties of 10% on countries that support the BRICS policy. He added that there would be no exceptions to this rule.
