Over the past day, 358 road accidents have occurred on Russian roads, killing 29 and injuring 434 people. 23 of the dead were passengers and drivers. This was reported to Izvestia on July 8 by the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Russian Interior Ministry.

21 accidents involving buses were recorded, three people were killed, and 26 more road users, including two children, required medical attention. 16 bus accidents were caused by traffic violations committed by drivers of other vehicles.

As a result of 68 accidents, 27 of which occurred at pedestrian crossings and 41 outside their area of operation, six pedestrians were killed, and 64 others were injured in various degrees of severity. Among the injured are 19 child pedestrians, 11 of whom were injured when crossing the roadway outside the designated places.

67 accidents involving minors were registered, in which 69 young road users were injured, including 21 passengers, 18 cyclists and six motor vehicle drivers. One teenage motorcyclist was killed.

For example, in Tyumen, a 64-year-old passenger car driver did not provide an advantage in traffic when turning left at a controlled intersection and collided with a pit bike driven by a 14-year-old schoolboy moving in the opposite direction. The teenager had not previously been issued a driver's license. He was wearing a helmet on a motorcycle that belonged to his mother and was used as sports equipment. As a result of the accident, a young motorcyclist was killed, and the driver and passenger of the car were treated for injuries on an outpatient basis.

The State Traffic Inspectorate called on parents to strictly monitor and stop attempts by children and teenagers to drive on their own, as well as exclude them from the possibility of access to driving cars and motor vehicles. Administrative liability in the amount of 30 thousand rubles is provided for the provision of the possibility of driving motor vehicles for children who do not have a driver's license of the appropriate category. The operation of motorcycles of the "sports equipment" category on public roads — outside specialized trails for classes and competitions in motorsport — is strictly prohibited, the department recalled.

"Motorists should be extremely careful when passing intersections, especially unregulated or with roundabouts. Never rush to "skip" them quickly, thereby creating a hindrance to other road users. Be collected and careful, leaving yourself plenty of time to react adequately to a possible change in the traffic situation at any moment," said Police Colonel Sergey Hrantskevich, head of the Department for Road Safety Promotion and Prevention of Child Traffic Injuries at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation.

Yesterday, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law that expands the possibilities of the State Traffic Inspectorate to revoke driver's licenses that have already been issued. It will enter into force on March 1, 2027. The traffic police will have the right to prematurely revoke certificates from drivers who have received contraindications to driving after an extraordinary medical examination.
