Currently, Lithuania is not ready for the introduction of universal military service. This was reported on June 7 by Tv3, citing a statement by President Gitanas Nauseda.

"Although the country's leader himself admits that the state currently does not have the resources necessary for universal military service, such plans, according to him, correspond to the state's goal of creating a national unit," the publication says.

The Head of State noted the importance of taking into account the human resources factor when making such decisions. At the same time, according to Nauseda, "demography does not work in favor of Lithuania."

Earlier in the day, the Baltic states confirmed their support for Ukraine's membership in NATO and the European Union (EU), according to a joint statement by the heads of the Foreign Affairs Committees of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia. Among the commitments set out in the statement are Ukraine's accession to the EU by 2030, as well as increased sanctions pressure on Russia.
