The response of the Lebanese authorities to the US proposals for de-escalation in the south of the country includes details on achieving a truce, it will also be a step towards ending the war and disarming all non-state formations. Marwan Abdullah, head of the Department for External Relations of the Kataib parliamentary party, told Izvestia about this.

"The response will relate to the mechanism of implementation of the agreement, technical details and will be a step towards ending the war and disarming all non-state formations," the Kataib representative said.

At the same time, he stressed that Hezbollah would no longer be able to dictate its terms: the Shiite movement relied on the pro-Iranian alliance, which allegedly suffered defeat.

U.S. Special Envoy Thomas Barak arrived in Beirut on July 7 to receive a response from the authorities to Washington's proposal submitted at the end of June. During the visit, the diplomat stated that Israel does not want war with Lebanon and seeks peace, but the implementation of this poses a problem.
