- A case of timber smuggling for almost 4 million rubles was opened in the Krasnoyarsk Territory.
A criminal case has been opened in the Krasnoyarsk Territory on timber smuggling with a total value of about 3.8 million rubles. This is reported by the regional Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
According to the agency, from December 2022 to March 2024, the accountant of a timber trading company in Lesosibirsk signed contracts with unidentified persons from a foreign country for the supply of timber. The collected documents were transferred to the customs authorities for declaration.
"The declarations themselves contained false information about the legality of the lumber being sold. Thus, the accomplices organized the illegal movement of timber," the agency said in a statement.
In total, the company illegally exported 869 cubic meters of timber. The cost of lumber was about 3.8 million rubles.
A criminal case has been opened under clause "b" of Part 2 of Article 226.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation "Smuggling of strategically important resources by a group of persons by prior agreement." The maximum sanction of this article provides for up to 10 years in prison, writes KrasnoyarskMedia news agency.
The defendants in the criminal case were given a preventive measure in the form of a written undertaking not to leave.
In February, a court in Irkutsk sentenced a husband and wife to terms ranging from seven years to six months in a general regime penal colony for timber smuggling. The volume of wood amounted to more than 20 thousand cubic meters, its cost was over 111 million rubles.
