- Trump sent a letter to Tokayev on the introduction of 25% duties on goods from Kazakhstan
Starting from August 1, the United States will impose duties of 25% on all goods from Kazakhstan. This was stated on July 7 by the American leader Donald Trump in a letter to the President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
"Starting on August 1, 2025, we will charge Kazakhstan a duty of only 25% on any and all Kazakhstani goods sent to the United States, separately from all sectoral duties," reads the letter published on the Truth Social network.
In addition, Trump announced the introduction of a 40% duty on all products from Laos and Myanmar from August 1, as well as a 25% duty on goods from Malaysia. According to the US president, these measures are designed to reduce the trade deficit and balance economic relations.
On the same day, Trump announced that from August 1, the United States would impose duties of 25% on all goods of Korean and Japanese origin imported into the country. According to him, the United States is ready to continue trade with Korea and Japan, but intends to achieve a more balanced relationship. He clarified that the new tariffs should compensate for the long-term trade deficit caused by the tariff and other policies of these countries.
