Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, during a meeting on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in Rio de Janeiro, confirmed their commitment to further promote the political settlement of existing conflicts. This is stated in a message on the website of the Russian Foreign Ministry.

"The two sides confirmed their mutual commitment to further coordination of the foreign ministries in order to help reduce tension in the region and achieve a political settlement of existing conflicts," the statement said.

Lavrov and Fidan discussed key issues of bilateral relations, including the implementation of strategic energy projects and prospects for expanding cooperation following a meeting of the Joint Intergovernmental Russian-Turkish Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation.

On July 27, Fidan announced that Turkey was ready to mediate the third round of negotiations between Russia and Ukraine. The Turkish Foreign Minister also commented on the positions of Russia and Ukraine before the start of the third round, noting that with proper mediation, the parties can find a compromise.
