Lavrov announced a meeting with the UN Secretary General at the BRICS summit

On July 7, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov announced that he had spoken with Secretary General of the United Nations Antonio Guterres on the sidelines of the XVII BRICS summit.

"I talked to him (Guterres — Ed.) today," TASS quoted him as saying.

The details of this conversation were not disclosed.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on July 2 that Guterres had overstepped his authority when he proposed limiting the right of veto in the Security Council. She recalled that the issue of Security Council reform does not fall within the competence of the UN Secretariat.
