The Russian car market was predicted to revive in the second half of the year
The Russian new car market is expected to gradually recover in the second half of 2025. A return to the growth rates observed in 2024 is unlikely, but there will be a revival in demand compared to the first half of the year. Daniil Shkurygin, Commercial Director of <url>, made such a forecast in a conversation with Izvestia on July 7.
"According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, 526.7 thousand new passenger cars were sold in Russia in the first half of the year. According to the consensus forecast, the market should reach 1.1–1.2 million new cars by the end of the year. If we take the average value as a basis, then for the second half of the year sales should be more than 100 thousand cars per month. This is almost 20% more than the average monthly sales in the first half of the year," Shkurygin estimated.
According to the expert, a reduction in the key interest rate will be able to help the market move forward — for many buyers, the opportunity to borrow cars is crucial. Deposit interest rates are falling — keeping money in banks brings less income, which can encourage the purchase of expensive goods such as a car. In addition, government support plays a role, in particular, the expansion of the preferential car loan program for families with two children.
"However, there are factors that will continue to have a negative impact on demand. First of all, these are limits on issuing car loans. Banks reduce risks and take a stricter approach to assessing the solvency of customers. Simply put, even if the interest rate on the loan becomes lower, it will still be difficult to get a loan. In particular, those who do not have a stable income or a good credit history," the specialist explained.
On July 4, it was reported that 90,116 new passenger cars were sold in Russia last month, which is 27.6% less than in June 2024. The Russian Lada brand still dominates the market, accounting for about 27% of its share in June, and in quantitative terms - 24,165 copies sold.
