The Polish army is conducting a special operation "Safe West" on the border with Germany to strengthen security in response to migration threats. This was announced on July 7 by the country's Defense Minister Vladislav Martin Kosinyak-Kamysh.

"Operation Safe West has begun: the Polish army supports border guards and police on the border with Germany. At the same time, we are expanding operations on the border with Lithuania as part of Operation Safe Podlasie," Kosinyak—Kamysh wrote on his page on the social network X (ex. Twitter).

According to him, a total of 5,000 people will take part in the operation. The purpose of the operation is to strengthen security against the background of migration threats.

On July 1, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced that the country would introduce temporary border controls with Germany and Lithuania from July 7 due to the large number of migrants. He pointed out that Warsaw's patience with migration issues is "running out."

Later, on July 3, the chief of the General Staff of the Polish army, Weslaw Kukula, announced that the Polish authorities would send 5,000 troops to strengthen border control with Germany and Lithuania.
