More than 70 people have died as a result of floods and landslides in northern India.
At least 78 people have died and 37 more are missing as a result of floods and landslides in the northern Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. This was announced on July 7 by the Indian NDTV channel.
"One of the most affected areas was the village of Thunag in Mandi District, where 14 people were killed and 31 residents are missing as a result of a sudden downpour and subsequent landslides. More than 150 residential buildings, 106 stables were destroyed, 31 vehicles, 14 bridges and many roads were damaged," the publication says.
As noted, Himachal Pradesh was in the epicenter of a natural disaster — floods, landslides and heavy rains caused damage worth billions of rupees. At the same time, the peak of the monsoon has not yet been reached. The destruction of 2025 has already been compared to the disaster of 2023, when more than 400 people died.
Weather services have declared a red alert level in Sirmaur, Kangra and Mandi districts, while an orange warning is in effect in Shimla, Solan, Hamirpur, Bilaspur, Una, Kullu and Chamba. Residents are asked not to approach rivers and ravines, new landslides, flooding and destruction are possible.
The search for the missing continues, especially in the Mandi district, where the highest number of flood episodes has been recorded. Authorities have confirmed the discovery of 14 bodies.
The Times of India reported on June 17 that in the state of Maharashtra in western India, 18 people have been killed and 65 others injured over the past 24 hours as a result of heavy rains. As specified, eight building collapses, three short circuits and 36 cases of falling trees and branches occurred in the city. Most of the incidents (22) were recorded in the western suburbs.
