- The doctor told the Russians about the danger of vitamin D deficiency for the kidneys
Vitamin D deficiency in the human body affects metabolism and bone health, and can also lead to kidney disorders and the development of urolithiasis. Gurgen Martirosyan, a urologist at the SM Clinic, told Gazeta about this on July 7.Ru».
According to the expert, vitamin D is a hormone-like compound that plays an important role in regulating body processes. Sufficient levels of this vitamin contribute to the proper absorption of calcium in the intestines, kidneys and adrenal glands, and also regulate the production of parathyroid hormone. However, when it is deficient, these processes are disrupted, which can lead to an excess of calcium in the blood and urine, known as hypercalcemia.
"About 80% of all kidney stones are made up of calcium formations, mainly calcium oxalates. In conditions of vitamin D deficiency, the likelihood of developing urolithiasis increases dramatically," said Martirosyan.
He clarified that calcium imbalance is not the only cause of kidney stone formation. According to research, vitamin D deficiency can lower testosterone levels, which in turn disrupts calcium metabolism and leads to the formation of calcium oxalate stones. In addition, changes in the hormonal background can provoke excessive production of parathyroid hormone, which stimulates the synthesis of uric acid.
Timely correction of vitamin D deficiency can be an effective measure to prevent urolithiasis, therefore, residents of the northern regions of Russia, as well as patients with chronic kidney and intestinal diseases, need to closely monitor their health, the urologist emphasized.
"The issue of vitamin D deficiency goes beyond just one specific pathology. This vitamin deficiency condition affects calcium metabolism, hormonal balance, and the immune system. Given the scale of the problem, it is necessary to monitor your diet and the level of beneficial trace elements and vitamins in your diet as carefully as possible," the doctor said.
According to the expert, at the slightest manifestations of symptoms, such as colic in the side or lower back, cloudy color or blood in the urine, spontaneous increase in body temperature, you should immediately seek medical help.
On July 5, Ivan Efremkin, a cardiologist at the Scandinavian Health Center, spoke about the non-obvious and dangerous signals of heart attacks. According to him, ischemia and heart attacks manifest themselves not only in obvious pain in the chest area, but also in fatigue, jaw pain, nausea, heartburn, as well as discomfort in the back or abdomen.
