- The media learned about the possible accusation of perjury of the former head of the CIA Brennan
John Brennan, the former head of the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), may be charged with perjury for alleged Russian interference in the 2016 US presidential election. This was reported on July 6 by the Breitbart news portal, citing sources.
"Former CIA Director John Brennan may face perjury issues after current CIA Director John Ratcliffe published an internal review of the agency's fake materials on Russia," the publication said.
It is clarified that Brennan ignored senior management officials who asked him not to include the dossier of ex-British intelligence officer Christopher Steele (based on which the investigation into alleged collusion between the United States and the Russian Federation was conducted) in the official joint analysis of US intelligence (ICA) on Russian interference in the 2016 elections.
According to the publication, Brennan also testified "behind closed doors" that he did not advocate the inclusion of the dossier in the ICA. Despite this, he testified to the contrary in the American Congress, which led the portal's sources to believe that the former head of the CIA had done "the opposite of what he was testifying to."
On June 26, the US CIA revealed a number of violations in the analysis of intelligence work on alleged Russian interference in the 2016 US presidential election. According to the agency, the assessment on this issue could be politically motivated.
