An earthquake of magnitude 4.3 was recorded on the night of Monday, July 7, near the coast of the Southern Kuril Islands. This was announced by the head of the Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk seismic station, Elena Semenova.

"An earthquake of magnitude 4.3 occurred in the Pacific Ocean on the night of July 7. The epicenter was located 115 km south of the uninhabited island of Simushir," she told RIA Novosti.

At the same time, as Semenova emphasized, its source lay at a depth of 38 km. In addition, she clarified that no data on the impact of the seismic event had been received, and no tsunami alert had been announced.

On July 4, an earthquake of magnitude 5.5 was also recorded off the coast of the Southern Kuriles with an epicenter 61 km southwest of Simushir and a focus at a depth of 166 km.
