Bashkirov, a two-time Russian boxing champion, has died at the age of 54.

Two-time Russian boxing champion Sergey Bashkirov, nicknamed Siberian Tyson, died at the age of 55 after a long illness. This was announced on July 6 by the professional boxing club "Fortress".

"Dad had a spinal cord tumor in all parts of his spine. We performed two successful operations. 24 out of 25 radiotherapy sessions were performed. But he could not withstand such a load," the club quotes Bashkirov's son's message on the VKontakte social network.

It is specified that the boxer died on July 4. The farewell to Siberian Tyson will take place in Novosibirsk on July 8 at 13:00 at 42/1 Potaninskaya Street, the athlete's son added.

Sergey Bashkirov was born in 1971 in Igarka, Novosibirsk region, where he started playing sports. During his career, the boxer became the champion of Russia twice, and also won the title of intercontinental world champion according to the International Boxing Federation (IBF) in the weight category up to 66.5 kg. In recent years, he has been a coach.
